In the five years they’ve been gigging the band has played shows varying in size and importance from small gigs in their local area to gigs at larger venues such as York’s Stone Roses’ Bar, Swindon’s Area 51, and Newcastle’s Carling Academy.

Their debut album sold in excess of 500 copies, and a follow up album “This Statement is False” is to be released in late 2008 early 2009 taking the band in a completely new direction.

The Karoshi Bros are Sam & Dan Burt whose genetic makeup is responsible for this electro, trip-hop and hypnotically funky pop mesh of sound. They both started off in a rock outfit with Lucas (now of Maximo Park) then changed their sound direction and are now Newcastle’s very own answer to Justice.

The Karoshi Bros are currently only performing at a select few gigs whilst they work on their forthcoming album, they’ve also recently enjoyed a lot of public airplay, with Fatboy Slim playing their “Love The World” single at the O2 Festival, and Pete Tong giving it is national radio debut on Radio 1.

“Love The World is infectious to say the least – think Seenlufts Manilla produced by Richard X (those fat Numan/League synths)and you’re getting close.” Jerry Bouthier (Kitsune / Boombox / M8)

Love The World is a hypnotically funky, synth laden, speaker drenching, dance floor banger. The Ingo Star Cruiser remix is already receiving boundless superlatives for it’s jackin’ baselines, pummelling electro funk and dance floor swagger by man of the moment Erol Alkan. These two stuttered and filtered good-time thumpers are destined for night-time hot spots across the land.

Sam and Dan Burt are the genre mesh heads behind The Karoshi Bros, who started their career in a rock outfit with Lucas from Maximo Park. However, finding themselves gravitating to an eclectic sound of triphop and electronic music the brothers broke away, creating tracks where the lyrics are as important as the beats.

“Myspace is yours, Your space is mine, We’re all selling cheap, We’re the latest freaks, A desperate peeping show, On the video”

Originally titled Fuck The World was meant as a protest song born out of frustration at label bosses demanding The Karoshi Bros write tracks for Backstreet Boys. What they did instead was write about all the filth and shit in life, “We’ve both mellowed a bit recently hence… Love The World.”

Using vocals of people who have never sung before keeps each track completely unique, the Love The World singer was found via Myspace in China. Keep your ears open for the follow up track with vocals laid down by a French law student singing about a drag queen.

A planned series of warehouse parties and gigs will showcase the gritty, intensity of the group live. Fronted by two alternatives, the first of which is POP, a riotous cross between Iggy Pop and Keith Flint, who in his spare time enjoys face diving off balconies, reconstructive surgery and rupturing shoulders. The latter, JJ is your dark and twisted early Gwen Stefani, “we’re loving this collaborative vibe where people can jump in and out creating things with us, all boundaries have gone.” Love The World is just the start of what’s to come from Newcastle’s answer to Justice.

..is how XFM recently described Small Screen Light Show. They are a young band from the small coastal town of Seaham in County Durham and since making their live debut at The Sage in Gateshead at the end of 2006, they have gone on to play well over 50 gigs – sharing stages with such luminaries as The Young Knives, The Rumble Strips, Dartz, The Buzzcocks, Frank Turner and The Answering Machine.

They were recently made Steve Lamacq’s ‘Unsigned Band Of The Week’ on Radio 1; just days after they’d received their first national airplay courtesy of Huw Stephens – again on Radio 1. Combined with a a busy summer schedule and a lot of media coverage these guys are definitely worth keeping an eye on.

The Venue

This, our debut event under the ‘Bursting the Bubble’ name will be hosted at Van Mildert College, part of the University of Durham. Student bar means student prices so this will definitely be a bargain night for both entertainment and beverage consumption.

We’ve also lined up some very special DUCKtails (cheap cocktails) and a BBQ, the proceeds from both of these will be going straight to charity. There’ll also be band merchandise on sale and a chillout area for those who would rather lounge back on a comfy sofa and enjoy the music.

After Party

After the gig we’ll be heading straight down to Fishtank (dragging all the bands with us!) where there’ll be an INDIE / ELECTRO CLUB NIGHT especially for Bursting the Bubble, with FREE ENTRY for gig-goers and DRINKS PROMOTIONS.
